One political party throwing an invitation to debate on Islam has got Adhaalath party agitated and excited.Agitated because the topics raised for the debate are mostly related to women and excited because of the political dimension of the invitation. On the face of it,this debate(if it happens) is not likely to increase peoples' understanding of Islam for several reasons:

1.Islam is not just a set of dos and donts and the level of confusion about Islam amongst the general public in not on the level of the Islamic rules, but its core foundation(or Aqeeda).Ask a scholar to prove the existence of a Creator and he is likely to go bonkers. Some others will say 'its not necessary to make Islam so complicated'.Some others will say there is no need to discuss an issue which is so obvious.Well if thats the case most of us will remain unequipped to face the twisted arguments of evolutionalists.

2.Adhaalath party claims they are sure that they will be the winner. So what is the use of a debate ? And the general public, thanks to the political environment, have become used to accept arguments based on personalities rather than concrete evidence.

3.Lastly,the manner in which Adhaalath party responded to this invitation shows hypocrisy of the highest order. One of its leading members accuse the person who gave the invitation of making haram into halal using the principle of 'Necessity'(Al-Dharoora).Well,Adhaalath party has been using this principle consistently to mask their own contradictory statements.Three examples should suffice:

a) During Hussain Solah's episode,Adhaalath party issued a fatwa saying that Islam permits post-mortems 'if its necessary to establish justice'.The question of whether post-mortem is halal and haram is another issue.Although explicit mention of 'dharoora' was not present, the thinking pattern indicates its usage.

b) The story about Adhaalath party's two leading members contradictory stances on photographs is an all time popular one in town.

c) Recently one of Adhaalath party's senior member was interviewed by a private radio channel and was asked why his party accepts money from the government which the party considers 'unislamic'.To which he responded by asking the interviewer whether 'Should we live in space?'Again there is no explicit mention of 'dharooriya' but if this is not considered the application of 'dharooriya' then what is?

So once the usage of this principle becomes commonplace, some people will get emboldened to apply this principle to every possibe issue.
